Baltal

The base camp of the Amarnath Yatra. It is located in the 14 km from the Amarnath Cave Temple. Offering a relatively easier route to the cave. Baltal is situated at an altitude of around 2,750 meters that is 9,022 feet . Baltal is also close to the sonmarg. Shorter but steeper trek to the Amarnath cave as compared to the Pahalgam route. The helicopter services are also available from the baltal to the Amarnath Cave for the early access. Especially for those who are unable to trek.

Sheshnag lake

It is located about 23 km from Pahalgam, on the way to Amarnath Cave.Surface elevation of lake is 3,590 m. and the length is 1.1 km. this lake is frozen during the month of December to march. According to hindu mythology sheshnag himself create sheshnag lake and it believed that snake is still live in the lake.

Pissu top

By train

The nearest railway station is jammu railaway staion and the name is Jammu Tawi Railway Station it is the major railway station to amaranth. You can take the taxi or a bus from jammu to Srinagar it is about 270 km,approximately 6-7hrs of travel. And there are also trains to Srinagar from jammu as the railway line is being extended.

By road

By road there are two base camps the first one is Pahalgam and the another one is Baltal. From Pahalgam travel by taxi or bus to Pahalgam, it is the popular way or starting point for the Amarnath pilgrimage. And it is far from 95km to pahalgam. And from Baltal it is the another base camp that is closer to temple and the distance is around 95 km

Trekking from the base camps

 From pahalgam to amaranth approx. 45 km. and the trek is around 4-5 days. The route passes through Chandanwari, Sheshnag Lake, and Panchtarni. Baltal to Amarnath the distance is approx 14 km.

History of the Amarnath Temple

The Amarnath Temple is situated in Jammu and Kashmir state of India, it is the reverd Hindu shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva. Its history is rich with legends and has evolved over millennia.

When he returned to thank the saint, he found a shrine at the spot where he had met him. This spot is now known as the Amarnath shrine.
